Our 'Reverse Gift Guide': Treat Yourself this Christmas...

Treat Yourself this Christmas…

Christmas a time to give gifts; we all know that. But to celebrate the fact that December 25 is mere weeks away, we’re bringing you a reverse gift guide.

The concept? While you’re treating someone else this festive season, why not add a little something into your (online) shopping basket for yourself? Read on for our top picks from the Breton Shirt Company site…

The Original Breton Shirt

When you feel as though you deserve a treat, but you don’t know where to start, we say you can’t go far wrong with our Original Breton Shirt. The most recognisable style of traditional, French fisherman’s shirt, it’s made to a square cut and offers a relaxed fit – perfect for those lazy days between Christmas and New Year. Plus, the more you wash it, the better it feels. Find it here – at £40.

Breton Orange

Feeling bold? Our Breton Orange should satisfy your craving for colour. Plus, it’s an oldie but (definitely) a goodie.

In the Breton surplus shop, we keep a stock of old, faded, often jaded shirts that take us back to 1988, when we first started out on our journey. When we say a ‘stock’, we really mean a battered old box full of historic samples and colours.

Whilst digging around, one combination really caught our eye and deserved reviving – it was this one, also at £40, but for a real slice of Breton history.

Not battered or jaded but a soft orange stripe on an ecru background. Made to the same recipes as all our Breton shirts. So comfortable they’re addictive.

Breton Polo Shirt

For the pub, for country walks, or for lounging at home in front of your favourite festive films, the Breton Polo Shirt (£49) is your trusty companion over Christmas, into the New Year and beyond.

They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.  Well, we do.  We took our time (over 10 years) to revert to an old favourite. Thick enough to hold off the dropping temperature. Thin enough to not restrict.

It combines traditional matelot styling with a classic polo collar and a vented hem. It’s made from thick, super soft 100% double jersey cotton and it will keep its shape and fade nicely with time and play, but perhaps not polo. Go on, treat yourself.

The Breton Hoodie

How to improve on a good thing?  Well, we have always experimented with different stripe combinations and fabric weights.  But every now and again, we must sit back and admire.

Introducing the Breton Ice – the perfect treat to yourself ahead of Christmas. Featuring a cool, dark navy base contrasted with clean crisp sharp white stripes, it’s been pre-washed for superior softness and is a true exercise in comfort.  Find it here – at £50.

The Original Breton Socks

Who doesn’t love socks for Christmas? Even better when you’ve chosen them yourself.

We have tried before to perfect a Breton stripe foot covering and failed, so we forgot about the idea until we met a dear friend with the skills and machinery to knit and manufacture the perfect Breton-striped socks*. Beautifully knitted in 100% cotton, they’re extremely soft and comfortable. Foot heaven for £10.50 a pair.

*Non-refundable or returnable.

We hope this guide has given you food for thought when you’re Christmas shopping; you deserve a treat too.

Until next time…
